Type your gross pay, then choose the period below.
I worked for this employer for all of last tax year (affects ESCT)
Enter this only if you worked for this employer for the whole previous tax year. We add the statutory minimum 3% employer contribution that applied in 2025/26; if they contributed more, your ESCT rate may differ. Leave it blank if you joined during or after that year — IRD then uses an estimate based on this year’s pay.
Off by default. IETC adds up to $520/yr on income of $24,000–$70,000, abating 13c in the dollar above $66,000. You cannot claim it for any period you received Working for Families, an income-tested benefit, NZ Super, a veteran’s pension or an overseas equivalent — tick it only if none of those apply.

How to convert your salary to an hourly rate
To convert an annual salary to an hourly rate in New Zealand, divide your salary by the number of hours you work in a year. At 40 hours a week that’s 2,080 hours, so $62,400 a year is $30 an hour. This salary calculator does the maths both ways — enter an annual salary to see the equivalent hourly rate, or enter an hourly wage to see the annual salary and your take-home pay after PAYE.

From an hourly rate back to a salary
Going the other way, multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week and by 52 weeks. So $35 an hour at 40 hours a week is an annual salary of $72,800. Part-time or casual? Use your real hours per week — the calculator updates the annual salary and per-hour take-home automatically.
What about tax on your hourly pay?
An hourly wage is taxed exactly like a salary: PAYE income tax across the IRD brackets, the 1.75% ACC earner’s levy, plus KiwiSaver and any student loan. For the full breakdown see the main PAYE calculator or the hourly pay calculator.
Salary, wage and take home pay in New Zealand
Use this rate calculator nz to turn a yearly salary into a pay rate, or an hourly wage into a gross salary, then calculate your salary after tax. Whether you’re paid a salary or wage, the deduction is the same: PAYE at your tax rate, the ACC levy, KiwiSaver at your contribution rate and any student loan repayments. The result is your take home pay, which you can view weekly, fortnightly or monthly. It doubles as a tax calculator and nz salary calculator, and works from the minimum wage up to high salaries — handy for comparing a pay rate against the median wage. For everything in one place, use the main paye calculator nz.
